Stratoscale Buys Tesora, Adds AWS Database Service

Stratoscale Ltd., which provides companies with their own on-premises Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) regions, acquired Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) specialist Tesora Inc. and announced a new AWS-compatible relational database service (RDS).
Stratoscale, an Israeli start-up founded in 2013, offers software-defined cloud infrastructure called Symphony. It can leverage commodity x86 servers and allow organizations to effectively manage a private AWS area within their datacenters.
Stratoscale has acquired technology that is built on the OpenStack Trove DBaaS platform by buying Tesora, a Massachusetts-based company that was founded seven years ago. Tesora’s platform offers organizations secure cloud access for popular databases through a single interface.
Stratoscale stated in a press release that Tesora’s team, DBaaS platform, and Tesora’s team “enhance Stratoscale’s capability in delivering database services to an on-prem AWS area, addressing market demand and adding DynamoDB and ElasticCache compatible services that can easily be deployed in any environment.”
“The Tesora DBaaS platform provides features that enterprises can rely on for self-service provisioning of and management of seventeen certified databases including Oracle, MySQL and MongoDB, Redis Enterprise, Couchbase and MariaDB, Percona and PostgresSQL, as well as DB2 Express.”
Stratoscale also announced the acquisition of a fully managed, AWS-compatible RDS that will be launched immediately and provide seamless deployment and scaling for enterprises. It will also eliminate operational friction.
Symphony 3 was also launched by the company recently. This free trial is available to organizations who want to install and manage their own AWS regions.
Ariel Maislos (CEO and founder of Stratoscale) said, “This acquisition is an important milestone for Stratoscale’s capability to help customers on the journey to cloud.” “Organizations want to use database as a service with a click of a button. Stratoscale is pleased to welcome Tesora aboard to make this a reality.
